Jane Sholine, a native of Lakeland, is the daughter of John and Zada Sholine.  She has been active in music from an early age. She began studying piano at the age of seven and was a member of the youth choirs at First United Methodist Church.

Ms. Sholine began playing the French horn at Southwest Junior High School under the instruction of Frank Howes, band director.  She attended Lakeland High School and was a member of the Lakeland Senior High School Dreadnaught Band under the direction of Bill Miller and Ron Wilder.

Ms. Sholine began her college career at Georgia Institute of Technology where she was a chemical engineering major.  She performed with the Georgia Tech Band and the Emory University Wind Ensemble while attending college in Atlanta.  She transferred to Florida State University to pursue a career in music, her first passion.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Florida State in 1986.

Ms. Sholine was employed following graduation by the Polk County School Board and has taught in the Polk County School system for the last twenty years.  She taught band at Bartow Junior/Middle School for seven years, at Lake Gibson Middle School for eleven years, and most recently two years at Lakeland Highlands Middle School. 

Ms. Sholine was named Bartow Middle School’s 1993 Teacher of the Year and Lake Gibson Middle School’s Teacher of the Year in 2002.  In 2006 Ms. Sholine received the Tom Bishop Award from the Florida Bandmasters Association for having a positive impact on a band program in a short time period.

Ms Sholine’s professional affiliations include the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, Music Education National Conference, Tau Beta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Golden Key National Honor Society. 

Ms. Sholine has performed with the Lakeland Imperial Symphony Orchestra and is currently performing with the Clarion Brass Quintet, and the Hollingsworth Winds.
